This challenge is intended to inspire our community's app developers and design gurus to create the MOST BEAUTIFUL WEATHER APP possible, written in NativeScript.

What we're looking for

NativeScript gives you ability to create gorgeous, rich user interfaces that take advantage of the best Android and iOS devices have to offer. Now it’s your turn to show the world what NativeScript can do. We would like you to create a beautiful weather app - how you display the weather forecast is absolutely up to you, but we want it to be beautiful, smooth, fast, and functional. Ideally, by the end of the contest, you will have an app that we can deliver to the app stores and feature prominently in our showcase. This app should look great and perform well on both Android and iOS.

Who can participate

Anyone who considers themselves well-versed in NativeScript. You can participate individually or in teams. Join the #weather-app room on the #NativeScriptCommunity Slack channel for help if you like.

How you can participate

Create your own NativeScript repo and get to work on it. You could take a look at sample designs on Pinterest, Dribbble, this Skillshare class or some other idea you might come up with. If you would like to borrow code, you can look at this (somewhat old) NativeScript example. Use Forecast.io if you like, as a solid API to get local weather. The Forecast API allows you to pass in latitude and longitude parameters to get a variety of weather data. Get your app's location by leveraging the geolocation plugin.

When is it due?

Please complete your work by 5:00 PM EST on June 30. It will be judged by an internal panel.

Can I talk about this anywhere?

Yes! Spread the word on social media!

What's in it for me?

The winner will be awarded an Ultra Mega NativeScript Swag Prize Pack, custom curated by Jen. It will include the extremely collectible chef's hat and apron worn by TJ (so, like a relic) worn to great effect at ng-conf. Folks, there are only two of these in the WHOLE WORLD and one has been raffled off for charity. You will also receive a t-shirt and other nice NativeScript-y items.
